Android set to take over Windows by 2016

From its launch, Android has gained a lot of momentum and has left its major competitors far behind. But according to some, Android has just started to take off. According to the latest report by IDC (International Data Corporation), Android is set to overtake windows by 2016.

According to the report, the shipments of the smart connected device may rise to 1.84 billion in 2016 from one billion in 2011. With this explosive sale of the android devices, it is expected that the android devices will dominate the market by 2016 and will over took Microsoft.

While apple is still riding on top of the tablet market, android tablets are believed to be taking the top place in a couple of years. Smartphones and tablets today are capable of meeting any requirement of the user. With over 3 billion smartphones sold every year with most of these devices featuring Android OS, this is certainly good news for Google.

The report is based on the smartphone, tablets and PCs put together. The report shows a rise of the Android OS market from 29.4% to 31.1%, with Microsoft failing from 35.9% to 26.1%. But individually Microsoft dominates the laptop and PC market with over 90% of the share.
