Best Buy CEO says Android tablet sales were better than expected

We’ve talked about Android tablet sales before, and while most people haven’t overly thrilled with Honeycombs foray into the world, Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn says that sales have been better than expected. During Best Buy’s conference call, Android’s tablet sales were one of the few bright spots that Brian was able to talk about during an otherwise disappointing second quarter. He had this to say:

“iPad sales were strong in the quarter as we expected but sales of Android devices also were solid and better than we expected.”

As he noted, iPad sales were still the biggest contributor to tablet sales, but Android has been doing fairly well also. Brian notes that Best Buy’s “Tablet Central” location, which showcases many tablets, could be a reason for the improvement in sales. Many Android tablets do not get the recognition they deserve, but stacking them right next to the iPad for customers to compare should give Android tablets some way to show off their strengths.

Brian also believes that Android’s next tablet offerings will give the customers even more choice, and hopefully more sales for the struggling tech retail giant. If Ice Cream Sandwich turns out to be what Google is saying, then Brian might be right.
