Supposed Ice Cream Sandwich screenshots show up, we’re not sold

What news is this? It seems as though RootzWiki was able to get their hands on what they say is completely 100% legit photos of Ice Cream Sandwich, the next Android OS. There is also a pic that Android Police found which shows off the phones firmware.

There are a few things that stick out as different. The App Drawer looks like there is a place to see your apps and widgets separately, like when adding stuff to your hoomescreen on Honeycomb. Also, there is what looks like a Honeycomb-styled search area on the homescreen picture. Other things to note is the different color scheme and the completely revamped notification system. We aren’t completely sold though, and here’s why:

  • With the Android information picture, it shows that Android OS as “IceCreamSandwich.” Every other time, that area actually showed the Android version, such as Android 2.2, Android 2.3, and so on.
  • Ice Cream Sandwich was supposed to completely do away with the four buttons we’re used to on our Android phones. Sure this phone is a Nexus S which will most likely be getting ICS, we aren’t denying that. The problem is that the UI should still have an area to go back, go home, and see other apps you have opened, just like with Honeycomb.

There are many things that can explain the issues we have with the pics above, the most compelling reason being that this may just be a very incomplete version of ICS. Still though, we can’t help but be a little skeptical. Do you think this is some version of Ice Cream Sandwich? Let us know.
