It’s only been a week since the release date of the Droid X, but that’s all it took for a small team of android devs to root the phone. At around 5:30 a.m. EST on Thursday, android hacker birdman tweeted that he had gained root access to the phone, then a post was followed with instructions shortly after on alldroid.
The war with Motorola’s eFuse chip still isn’t over, but this is great news to hear that root was achieved so quickly. There is no guarantee that Custom ROMs will come as quickly, if at all. For now you will have to live with just being able to remove stock apps (i.e. blockbuster movie, amazon mp3 store) and using apps that need root access. Birdman is currently working on overclocking the Droid X, so I would say Set CPU would be a good choice, plus look for a method for using Wi-Fi tethering free soon.
For instructions, go here. There are quite a few commands to type in, but copy/paste always makes things easier. Make sure you read all the instructions before doing anything, just so you understand the risks.

I know what you mean , living in this day and age seems completely different then it was when I was younger. I reckon our great grand parents never really thought about this , technology as we know it from many angles makes a lot of things possible . You know I am just old fashioned , but I remember back when life was simple. Someones word was their bond rather then their signature , you could trust if your kids were outside by themselves they were safe , and things weren’t as costly. I recon costs are always going to go up , but you know I don’t know why why we can’t go back to the days when neighbors really cared for one another and actually knew each others names. I guess its history, but you know today is another day to be alive , so I suppose I otta just keep moving forward.
